It's that time of year again for elementary school field days, and one of the biggest around has traditionally been Levy-Lakeside's Peace and Friendship Day in Merrick.
The school celebrated the annual event for students in kindergarten through sixth grade on June 18, with more than 150 PTA volunteers hosting the all-day affair, said Sara Eckstein, the Peace and Friendship Day chairwoman. Eckstein said the school emphasized traditional field day activities like potato sack and three-legged races. And judging by the smiles on kids' faces, they had a blast. The Herald was there to catch the action.
Peace and Friendship Day "helps build good sportsmanship and class camaraderie," Eckstein said.
