L.I. Crisis Center to hold suicide awareness walk in Long Beach Sept. 18

The Long Island Crisis Center will hold its third annual “Let’s Walk, Let’s Talk…Stepping Together to Prevent Suicide” event on Sunday, Sept. 18, on the Boardwalk at Riverside Boulevard in Long Beach.

Suicide is the third leading cause of death among adolescents and young adults, and eight out of 10 people who commit suicide tell someone first.

While these are daunting statistics, Long Island Crisis Center, a 40-year-old agency on Long Island, is dedicated to increasing suicide awareness, educating everyone about the warning signs of suicide, and de-stigmatizing the subject of suicide and spreading the word that “it’s okay to ask for help.”

On-site registration for the walk begins at 11 a.m. Online registration is taking place right now at www.longislandcrisiscenter.org or call (516) 826-0244 for more information. A minimum donation of $25 per person is suggested. The Long Island Crisis Center is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) agency that operates 24 hours-a-day, seven days per week with staffed, live hotlines that are anonymous and confidential.
