L.I. Nets complete home sweep of Maine

The Long Island Nets (4-2), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, defeated the Maine Celtics (2-4), 102-100, on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at Nassau Coliseum. 

Long Island was led by Brooklyn two-way guard Jalen Wilson with 18 points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal in 33 minutes. Long Island guard Kyler Edwards added 13 points and two rebounds in 19 minutes. Nets guard Terry Roberts posted 13 points in addition to three rebounds, two assists and two steals in 18 minutes.

Long Island’s defense struggled to find its footing in the first quarter, while Maine’s offense shot 60.0 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from deep. Maine closed the period ahead by 16, 36-20. The Celtics maintained their effort in the second quarter, shooting 55.3 percent from the field. Long Island tried to shrink the gap, but Maine kept its foot on the gas. The Nets closed the first half down by 19, 64-45.

The Nets worked hard in the third quarter, shooting 50.0 percent from the field. Despite outscoring the Celtics 27-24 in the quarter, it was not enough to take the lead overall. Maine held its lead and closed the period ahead by 16, 88-72. Long Island’s offense found its stride in the fourth quarter, led by Brooklyn assignee Noah Clowney’s nine points. The Nets outscored the Celtics 30-12 in the quarter on 42.9 percent shooting from the field and 45.5 percent shooting from behind the arc and outrebounded Maine 12-4. Long Island guard Terry Roberts’ late step-back 3-pointer made room for Long Island to turn the tides in the last 52 seconds of the game, and the Nets went on to defeat Maine by two, 102-100.

Maine guard DJ Steward tallied a game-high 24 points in addition to seven rebounds, three assists and one steal in 32 minutes. Boston two-way forward Drew Peterson posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds to go along with eight assists and one block in 36 minutes.
