Permits good for Merrick station, where they take effect April 1

Posted

Permit parking at the Merrick Long Island Railroad station will officially begin Tuesday, April 1. The Town of Hempstead has reserved 215 parking spaces east of Hewlett Avenue on the south side of the train tracks for town residents who purchase permits. Non-town residents will be barred from parking in these spaces from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays, except for holidays.

Permit cost $3. All town residents, regardless of whether they live in incorporated villages or unincorporated hamlets, may purchase permits. These permits allow car owners to park in select spaces at the Bellmore, Wantagh and Seaford LIRR stations in addition to the Merrick station.

Representatives of the Town Clerk’s office will sell permits from 6 to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 25 at the Bellmore train station. Residents may also buy permits in person during business hours at Town Hall in Hempstead, or they can call the Town Clerk’s office at (516) 812-3513 to request a permit application via mail, which they may also return via mail. The applications are also available inside the Merrick LIRR station. Those who submit the application via mail will need to include a copy of their automobile registration and a $3 check made payable to Town Clerk Nasrin Ahmad. Those who buy the permit in person should also bring a copy of their automobile registration. Residents can call (516) 812-3513 or email commuterparking@tohmail.org for more information.
