Local students think of others

Posted

The theme for November at St. Agnes Cathedral School was “service for others.” Students at the school conducted a letter writing campaign to the soldiers overseas, had a soup lunch from which the proceeds were donated to the Parish Service Center, collected food items for the needy in Rockville Centre and had a traditional Thanksgiving para-liturgy. service.

  Soup lunch and food collection

Awareness of those less fortunate in our community calls for positive action on their behalf.  During the season of Thanksgiving St. Agnes students were asked to contribute money and food which was donated to the St. Agnes Parish Service Center. Classroom collections took place all through November. In addition, the school held a soup lunch for students in grades 2 to 8 on Nov. 24. Children were served a bowl of soup and crackers. A donation of $2 per student was then forwarded to the Parish Service Center and The Interfaith Nutrition Network.

  Greetings for our troops

Working with the Jacob’s Light Foundation, an organization that offers a lifeline to soldiers overseas, students in grades 1-8 devoted some of their class time to writing messages of encouragement, gratitude and holiday cheer to the men and women serving our country overseas.  Eight hundred cards were collected from the students and will be sent along with other treats during the holiday season.
