Ingrid Dodd knows a lot about movies. As co-founder of the Long Beach International Film Festival — a popular event now going into its third year — she is playing a major role in what many are describing as a boom in the Long Island film industry.

Last year, more than 3,000 people turned out to the festival, which celebrated the art of storytelling through shorts, fiction and documentary films on the boardwalk and beach outside of the Allegria Hotel. The event attracted celebrities like Joan Jett, Dee Snider, Burt Young, and UFC Champion Chris Weidman.

The Long Beach International Film Festival is accepting submissions online starting Feb. 14. Entries will be gathered through June 1. The festival will begin on July 31, and is being extended into a three-day event. This year’s sponsors include the City of Long Beach, Nassau County, Grumman Movie Studios, Zico Water and News 12.

“We are accepting shorts under 15 minutes, documentaries and features,” said Dodd. “As we move into year three, and continue our free ‘Shorts on the Beach’ film series and red carpet event on the Long Beach Boardwalk, we will also add another cool element — a drive-in movie at Nickerson Beach.”
