Long Beach man charged with attempted rape

Adell Hardwick, 21, of Long Beach was arrested and charged with attempted rape in Long Beach on Aug. 24.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, Hardwick approached a 44-year-old homeless woman sitting on a bench on the boardwalk at Riverside Boulevard and started a conversation with her at about 5:45 a.m. on Aug. 24. The woman got up to use the restroom and Hardwick followed her there and attempted to assault her, police said. The woman resisted and Hardwick fled the scene. She enlisted the help of a passer-by, who called 911 on his cell phone and notified the LBPD. A police officer who was on patrol received the call and quickly apprehended Hardwick at Riverside Boulevard and West Beech Street.

Hardwick was arraigned in Long Beach City Court before Judge Tepper, and was remanded to the Nassau County Correction Facility where he is being held in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $ 1,000,000 bond.
