Artists, photographers and musicians wanted

Visual artists and photographers are wanted for “Art in the Plaza,” scheduled to be held in Kennedy Plaza outside City Hall on Sundays from May 16 to Nov. 14. This new initiative partners all of the local Long Beach arts organizations and will provide their members with the opportunity to exhibit and sell their art. Musicians will have an opportunity to perform in a public venue and sell their CD's and merchandise. For further information and exhibit updates, contact Scott Evers at www.artinthe

Cabaret festival

Artists in Partnership, a non-profit cultural arts organization, will host its 8th annual Cabaret Festival from May 20 to 23 at the Long Beach Library.

The festival is a celebration of the cabaret genre honoring the American songbook featuring performances that include:

n May 20 (7 p.m.): Sing the Truth, a workshop by Barbara Fasano and Eric Comstock

n May 21 (7:30 p.m.): This Thing Called Love by Barbara Fasano and Eric Comstock

n May 20 (2 p.m.): Cabaret Conversations with guests Anita Drian and others

n May 22 (8 p.m.): All About Love featuring vocalist Baby Jane Dexter and pianist Ross Patterson.

n May 23 (3 p.m.): I Love Being Here with You with Marieann Meringolo and Doyle Newmyer.

Torah celebration

The BACH Jewish Center welcomes it’s new Torah scroll from Israel. Starting at 9 a.m. on May 16, the new Torah scroll will be led in a parade-style procession from the new Allegria Hotel, at 80 W. Broadway, to the holy Ark at the BACH, at 210 Edwards Blvd. For more information call 897-2473.

Memorial Day parade

The City of Long Beach will pay tribute to our veterans with the annual Memorial Day Parade on May 31. This year Iraq and Afghanistan veteran SSG Alfred Palmieri will lead the parade as grand marshal and City Manager Charles Theofan will act as Master of Ceremonies. The parade begins at Ohio Avenue and West Beech Street at 9:30 a.m. and ends at the reviewing stand on West Park Avenue in front of City Hall. Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, Jewish War Veterans and AMVETS will be joined by city, county and state officials.
