Long Beach police are investigating a late-night shooting near the Channel Park Homes on Saturday that left one man injured after more than 30 shots were fired.

On Tuesday, City Manager Jack Schnirman posted a message on Facebook saying that the incident was “isolated." A spokesman for the LBPD, Lt. Eric Cregeen, was not immediately available for comment on Tuesday.

When asked whether the incident was gang-related, Cregeen said on Monday that a motive has yet to be determined. Police have not said how many suspects were involved, only to say that the investigation is ongoing. At this time, only one victim was reported injured, Cregeen said.

According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 11:55 p.m. in the North Park area, when police received a call reporting that a man had been shot. Upon arriving at the scene, officers observed a male victim lying in the street at 1 Sycamore Ct. and National Boulevard, two blocks north of City Hall.

The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the 26-year-old victim from Inwood, whose name was not released, to South Nassau Communities Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said. Two sources with knowledge of the shooting said that the victim had been shot twice.

According to a statement issued by police on Monday afternoon, officers established a crime scene and discovered 31 shell casings of varying calibers in the roadway at National Boulevard and West Fulton Street. Cregeen said that investigators believe more than one assailant was involved in the shooting, after officers recovered two rifles on West Fulton. Nassau County Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit was notified and detectives responded, police said.
