A Long Beach teen was charged with assault last week, after he allegedly pushed a woman to the ground during an altercation on the boardwalk.

According to police, the incident occurred on Nov. 2 at 9:40 p.m., when a 16-year-old male intentionally pushed a woman in her 50s at the Washington Boulevard boardwalk, causing the woman to fall backward and strike her head on the ground. The victim sustained a concussion, police said, and was transported by ambulance to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside for emergency treatment of her injuries.

Lt. Eric Cregeen, a spokesman for the Police Department, said it was unclear whether the teen and woman knew each other, but said that the two had argued prior to the incident.

“I think there was a verbal altercation that got physical,” Cregeen said.

On Nov. 5, the teen turned himself in at Long Beach Police Department Headquarters, where he was arrested and charged with third-degree assault.
