Seal Sightings
If you have some time this Easter weekend, take in an early spring outing to view the harbor seals that winter on Long Island before they journey back to Maine. Join the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation for a sail aboard the Captain Lou Fleet out of Freeport to view the seal populations throughout Hempstead Bay. A naturalist is on board to share insight into their biology and behavior, along some discussion about other marine life that can be encountered. You may even see a pup or two.
Friday and Sunday, March 25-26, 12:30 p.m. boarding time, with 1 p.m. departure. $26, $22 seniors and children. Reservations required. All proceeds support the New York State Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program. 28A Woodcleft Ave., Freeport. (631) 369-9840 or www.riverheadfoundation.org.
