Lorax rocks against hunger

For all members of the Boy Scouts of America, the coveted rank of Eagle Scout, the organization's highest rank and honor, is the ultimate goal. For everyone trying for the rank, a community service project is one of the requirements.

Instead of doing something typical, 16-year-old Boy Scout Zachary Kirsimae, of Rockville Centre Troop 517 decided to hold a food drive for the New LIFE Center-Nassau Food Pantry. But to entice people to donate food, he and his band, Lorax, held a concert in the parish hall of the Oceanside Lutheran Church called "Lorax Rocks Against Hunger."

In lieu of charging money for admission, Kirsimae made the charge a donation of non-perishable food items. The admission got audience members tickets to see not only Lorax, but also Jordi Rosen and a fellow band from Troop 517, Dinosaur Farm.
