Greis Park in Lynbrook was the place to be last Saturday for the annual Lynbrook Expo, which also served as the village’s official kick off of its centennial celebration. Fun, food and sunny weather made for a winning combination.

“I think everyone had a good time,” said Expo coordinator Carol Burak. “There was something for everyone — when the weather is wonderful, the event is wonderful.”

The day included a presentation by the Silver Dolphins Naval Drill Team, a karate demonstration, school choruses, arts and crafts, classic cars and police cars, a fire-prevention Smoke House and a dog obedience show. The Town of Hempstead offered children I.D.s; the Rotarians cooked up some good barbecue food; Long Island American Water handed out free cups of ice water. Men in Civil War garb demonstrated what life was like in that era; The Lynbrook Fire Department put on a demonstration with their new rope belts, and showed how they extinguish a car fire.

Girl Scout Jaclyn Stamile unveiled her Gold award project at the Expo — a Lynbrook mosaic made up of 64 tiles designed by residents and friends. Chuck Stroehlein of Colonial Concepts, 331 W. Merrick Rd. in Valley Stream stepped in just 48 hours before the Expo to help with putting together and mounting the mosaic when the former company dropped out at the last minute.
