Valedictorian Chelsea Goldinger
When asked for the best piece of advice she could offer to incoming freshmen, Lynbrook High School’s 2010 Valedictorian Chelsea Goldinger replied, “Only pursue activities you love. Do not waste away your life building a resume or doing what others wish of you. My mantra is that your happiness will coincide with success–always.”
By following her own advice, not only has Chelsea left behind a legacy of achievement, but she has earned acceptance to many of the top schools in the country, including the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell University, Georgetown University, the University of Virginia, Emory University, and Northwestern University.
An AP Scholar with Honor, Chelsea has distinguished herself as Editor-in-Chief of Horizon, Lynbrook High School’s award-winning student newspaper, and as vice president of the National Honor Society (NHS), captain of the Varsity Swim team and vice president of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). She has participated in the Intel Science Talent Search and ISEF competitions and has earned honorable mention in the Long Island Science Congress and Explora-Vision science competitions. In addition, Chelsea is a member of the Chamber Orchestra and has also been active in the Leadership Club and Athletes Creating Excellence.
Along with success, Chelsea found meaning in all of her high school accomplishments. “Through the paper I had an opportunity to improve my skills as an editor and writer,” she explained. “Through swimming I learned lessons about teamwork, the value of losing gracefully and the importance of depending on others. My involvement in science research allowed me to focus on my interests in feminism and civil rights. Through NHS and SADD I developed skills as a leader and became friends with many different circles of people.”
“My dad is the person who helped me set my sights so high. I am most proud of always reaching higher than I can jump, while never losing sight of what I love.”
