Lynbrook village pool at Greis Park was closed on Monday after damaging winds and rain from Hurricane Irene wreaked havoc on the area.

They are expected to reopen today, Thursday, and the kiddie pool is scheduled to open on Friday.

The Lynbrook Pool will be open an additional weekend, Sat, Sept. 10 and Sun., Sept. 11 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to make up for lost days from hurricane Irene.

The pool’s main building lost power on Sunday during the storm, said Recreation Director Pat McDermott. There is not enough power to run the pool’s pumps that operate above 220 volts, McDermott said. He had also tried to get a generator with no success.

Village officials said they have contacted the Long Island Power Authority to restore the power. “As you can imagine, many families without power and air conditioning would flock to the pool, especially during the last week before school opens, and the three-day holiday weekend approaching…” wrote Village Administrator John Giordano in an email to LIPA on Wednesday. “…We hope you give this outage priority status.”
