Lynbrook woman charged in fatal accident

The Homicide Squad reports the details of a fatal auto accident that occurred on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 12:18 AM in Freeport.
A 63-year-old man was killed in Freeport on Jan. 21 as he crossed southbound to northbound on Merrick Road and South Ocean Avenue, according to homicide detectives.
At 12:18 a.m., the man was struck by a 1998 Toyota Camry traveling westbound. He was then hit by a second automobile, a Ford Crown Victoria taxi, owned by Taxi America. The victim was pronounced at scene at 12: 30 a.m. 
According to police, the driver of the Toyota, Jean Fusci, 43, of Manor Road, Lynbrook was arrested and found to have 19 white colored pills believed to be Xanax in her possession. She was charged with Vehicular Manslaughter 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Control Substance 7th Degree, DWI, and Refusal to take a Breath Test. The driver of the taxi was not charged.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin.

Fusci was arraigned at First District Count on Jan. 21.

People named in Crime Watch items as having been arrested and charged with violations or crimes are only suspected of committing those acts of which they are accused. They are all presumed to be innocent of those charges until and unless found guilty in a court of law.

Arrests

On Jan. 19 at 5:06 p.m., Anthony Calvo, 20, of Lynbrook was arrested and charged with criminal tampering in the third degree that occurred on Hempstead Avenue in Lynbrook.
On Jan. 20 at 2 p.m., Bradley Smith, 23, of Valley Stream was arrested on an open warrant for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree that occurred on Merrick Road in Lynbrook.
On Jan. 20 at 11:35 p.m., Justin Thurmond, 21, of West Hempstead, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana on Hendrickson Avenue in Lynbrook.

Grand larceny
Between 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 22 and 9:40 a.m. on Jan. 23, a 2008 Ford F150 pickup truck valued at $22,000 was taken from the driveway of a home on Shipherd Avenue in Lynbrook. CRIME WATCH
