The Malverne Mohawks Youth Lacrosse League held its fourth annual Youth Lacrosse Day on May 21 at the Malverne High School field. Boys and girls faced off with other lacrosse players from teams throughout the county.

The seventh- and eighth-grade girls made it to the Long Island Senior Girls Youth Lacrosse Leagues championship game on May 22 and lost 14-9, but Mohawks Director Coach Charlie, who asked that his last name not be printed, said he’s proud of his players.

“Our teams have played all season with heart, hustle and sportsmanship — and regardless of game scores,” he said, “it has once again been a victorious season for all teams and I am very proud of all of them.”

The coach went on to say “I am so proud to be associated with such great players, coaches and parents. It is our goal to not only teach the children the game of lacrosse, but to teach them to respect rules, opponents, officials, teammates and selves.”

Coach Charlie said he’s looking to have more players join next season and to recruit men and women coaches. Anyone with questions and those interested in joining can email malvernelax@gmail.com and friend the Malverne Mohawks on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
