Malverne students help the homeless

The Community Service Club at Malverne’s Howard T. Herber Middle School recently worked in collaboration with the school’s Honor Society to participate in the “Have a Heart for the Homeless” program.

Through this partnership, the clubs assembled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to benefit the local Interfaith Nutrition Network. Items for the sandwiches were donated by students and teachers within the school community. For the third time in two years, the school was able to donate more than 500 sandwiches to the INN.

“Any project we do, the kids respond and are willing to help,” said Community Service Club advisor Matthew Rosen. The club is also coordinating Relay for Life in May.

“We just really want to help out,” said one of the participating students, Nick St. John.
