Donna Banek, a seventh-grade science teacher at the Howard T. Herber Middle School in Malverne, has been appointed to represent all of Nassau County in the Science Teachers Association of New York State’s Board of Directors.

The organization has served science teachers throughout the state for more than a century, and Banek has been involved with the organization for almost 25 years. She became a Subject Area Representative for the Intermediate Level in 2006.

In her new position with STANYS, Banek will be responsible for making policies for the organization, along with her fellow directors. She has also been nominated and plans to run for the position of secretary of the executive board of directors, for which elections will be held in November 2012.

Banek has more than 24 years of experience in the education field, all within the Malverne school district. She holds a Bachelor of Science from Molloy College, a Master of Science Education from Adelphi University and her administrative certificate from Long Island University’s C.W. Post Campus.
