Man injured in crash by Lakeside

A red sedan slid off Merrick Road at 9:10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, as it traveled east between Babylon Road and Lindenmere Drive, clipping one tree and slamming into another in front of Levy-Lakeside Elementary School in Merrick.

Ron Luparello, a Merrick Fire Department spokesman, said the driver’s head hit the windshield and cracked the glass, and he was rushed by ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow. Luparello said the driver had a “substantial injury,” but he remained conscious.

Luparello did not pinpoint the crash’s cause, but slippery road conditions, which heavy rain and snow caused, may have been a contributing factor.

Seven Merrick firefighters responded to the crash in an ambulance and fire truck, Luparello said. At least three police cars also responded.
