The Student Council at Maurice W. Downing School in Malverne took the time to honor local heroes in the community during its annual Malverne Heroes Day on Feb. 14. State officials, village leaders, police reserves, firefighters and many other active people in the community were recognized for their individual efforts.
The Student Council held a special breakfast for its heroes, greeting them with high-fives and thanking each honoree for their service in the community. Students sat around the honorees during a school assembly and listened to each person explaining their careers, and the importance of being involved in your community.
