Meadobrook Alternative Program remembers the Holocaust

Posted

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District’s Meadowbrook Alternative Program recently welcomed famed visual artist Jeffrey Schrier, founder of the Holocaust remembrance organization Wings of Witness.

Schrier had the students craft butterfly wings using soda-can tabs. Students strung the tabs onto long metal wires, and then they and their teachers assembled them into the wings. Throughout the exercise, students learned about the Holocaust. The tabs represent the more than 6 million Jews who perished in Nazi concentration camps.

The Central High School District and the Bellmore-Merrick Community Parent Center co-sponsored Schrier’s visit. For more information, check out www.wingsofwitness.org.
