Medical assistant charged with larceny

Posted

Barbara Bein-Aime of Massapequa was arrested and charged with stealing $12,000 worth of insurance checks while employed as a medical assistant at the office of Dr. John and Judith Mark in North Merrick.

According to police, Bein-Aime, 23, stole about 20 insurance checks from Oct. 8 to Dec. 6. The checks were endorsed by Bein-Aime and deposited into her personal checking account.

“It really would not be appropriate for me to make any comment at this time,” Dr. John Mark told the Herald. “It’s something we’re very, very sad about and very upset about, but there are ongoing issues that cannot be discussed, and I cannot make any comment.”

Bein-Aime was charged with third-degree grand larceny and second-degree forgery. She was to be arraigned today in First District Court in Hempstead.

Bein-Aime is represented by the Legal Aid Society, which does not comment on cases as a matter of policy.
