Merrick gas station robbed at gunpoint

A BP gasoline station, at 1577 Merrick Road in Merrick, was robbed at gunpoint late Wednesday night, according to Nassau County police.

Officials said that a man carrying a knife entered the service station at about 10:48 p.m., threatened an employee with a gun and went behind the counter. The suspect emptied the register, taking an undetermined amount of cash, and exited the store in a black vehicle that was waiting for him outside.

The vehicle took off westbound on Merrick Road to the northbound entrance ramp of the Meadowbrook Parkway. No injuries were reported, and there was no one else in the station during the robbery.

The suspect is described as African-American, 5-foot-8, bald, clean-shaven and wearing a long-sleeved black shirt and jeans.
