Merrick man charged with DWI

Posted

A Merrick man was arrested by New York State Police on Dec. 19 after he was pulled over for cell-phone use while driving on the Southern State Parkway. In the end, police wound up charging him with felony driving while intoxicated.

Police say that Christopher Wolf, 53, was driving on the parkway eastbound near Hempstead Avenue in a tan Nissan Frontier when he was pulled over for talking on his cell phone. While interviewing Wolf, troopers said they detected a strong odor of alcohol and noticed Wolf’s watery eyes. Wolf failed sobriety tests and was arrested for DWI, according to police.

Wolf then told police that he did not have a license on him, and a check revealed that Wolf’s license had previously been revoked several times for DWI and failure to pay child support. The vehicle registration was also suspended for an insurance lapse.

Wolf was charged with felony DWI because he had previously had at least one DWI conviction in the past 10 years, as well as a felony charge for unlicensed operation of a vehicle. And he was charged with having a suspended registration, having an open container in a motor vehicle and traffic violations. He was held for arraignment in Nassau County’s 1st District Court.
