The Hempstead School District recently appointed Lakeview native Hank Williams as the new principal of the Alverta B. Gray Schultz Middle School. Williams, a 1985 Malverne High School alumnus and former All-Long Island basketball player, previously served as a teacher, assistant principal and dean of students at ABGS Middle School, as well as an assistant principal at Hempstead High School.

He is the son of Malverne High School alumnus and former All-American football and basketball player Wandy Williams, and the nephew of legendary Malverne High School basketball coach the late Hank Williams.

Williams has been a relentless community advocate for children. In addition to serving as an educator and administrator in the Hempstead Public Schools, he has coached basketball for the past 18 years at Freeport, Malverne and St. Dominic’s high schools in Long Island, and I.S. 292 in Brooklyn.

“I am deeply honored to serve as the new … principal,” Williams said. “I pledge to provide instructional leadership in this new position and to be an active and visible presence throughout the school and community. I am also looking forward to cultivating and enduring productive professional relationships with the students, staff and the community. My goal is to ensure that every student gets a first-class seat toward their educational experience and reach their maximum learning potential. I am excited and enthusiastic about my new position and I look forward to having a wonderful school year.”
