Mill Brook residents to vote on library contract

Residents of the Mill Brook Library District will have the opportunity to vote on whether to renew their contract with the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library in Valley Stream next week, as the current contract expires at the end of the year.

Voters will decide whether or not the district will retain the library’s services. It was the only library to bid on the contract, so it will be the only one on the ballot. If the four-year contract is approved, the library will receive $236,670 in funding for its 2016 budget, which will be adjusted each year for cost of living changes.

“We are committed to ensuring that residents continue to enjoy all of the educational, cultural and social benefits that go along with having full library services,” Murray said.

Registered voters can vote at their normal polling stations, which will be open from noon to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27. All registered voters will receive a mailing with details regarding the vote, including the contract budget, according to the town.

Councilman Bruce Blakeman said in a statement that the election would continue the services that residents are used to.

“The approval of a library funding district for 2016 through 2019 will afford residents continuing access to borrowing privileges and all of the other library services and benefits that they have received since the library district was first established in 2002,” he said.
