Molloy students raise funds, awareness for mental illness

Molloy College students were the second place winners of NAMIWalks’ Long Island College Challenge Cup. The students raised awareness about mental illness and $2,350 to support the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Queens/Nassau and other local NAMI affiliates.

“Molloy’s student government provides a forum for discussing current topics of interest and concern. When we were approached to support the work of NAMI, we all agreed that if you really thought about it, everyone knew someone with a mental illness. It was unanimous; we all agreed to raise funds and awareness for this significant organization that does so much for so many,” said Molloy College Student Government President Brian Ciampo, who added, “Our two teams, Molloy Cares and the Molloy College Psychology Club look forward to NAMIWalks 2013!”

Molloy College had 45 walkers. Stony Brook University was the first place winner, raising $3,263 and having 75 walkers. Other schools that participated include Adelphi University, Nassau Community College, Queensboro Community College, Touro College, NYIT and SUNY Suffolk, Grant Campus.
