More help for Gina from Jan. 31 fundraiser

Posted

On Jan. 11, Peter Frank’s Hair Salon on N. Long Beach Road opened its doors to help a neighbor in need. His staff volunteered their time to help Gina Giallombardo, a resident of Rockville Centre, who at the young age of 21 has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma.

Staff members spent their day cutting and coloring hair and all proceeds were donated to “Life for Gina” to help offset medical costs she is incurring in her battle against the disease. Some of Gina’s friends were on hand to help with raffles that were donated by local merchants including E & W Delicatessen, Busco’s Deli, Gino’s, Puglia Restaurant of East Meadow, a Paul Mitchel basket from Beauty Products, Inc. and balloons that were donated by Balloons Unlimited.

Everyone pitched in to help Gina, including the many people who came in that day to get a haircut. Along with private contributions and a special donation from The Frank Kaiser Foundation, the event raised close to $14,000 and as of press time, many people were still contributing.

Organizers of the event say they’d like to thank everyone who came in for beauty services, all those who made donations for Gina and the local businesses who contributed to the raffles. The organizers also send a big thank you to Frank and his entire staff who made this event both possible and a great success.

Anyone who would like to donate money to “Life for Gina,” can send it to Gina’s address at 28 St. Marks Avenue in Rockville Centre or call Gina’s sister, Janice, at (516) 263-7386. There will be a benefit concert for Gina on Jan. 31 at The Backstage, 948 Broadway, in Woodmere. For a $20 donation at the door, there will be bands, food and raffles.
