Mystery novel heats up summer for readers

Avid mystery book readers from Merrick and Bellmore recently gathered at the Merrick Library to celebrate the Summer Reading Program’s conclusion with writer Christopher Bollen.

Bollen, author of “The Orient,” hosted the End of the Summer Reading Party to celebrate the Merrick, North Merrick, Bellmore and North Bellmore libraries’ joint Summer Reading Club for Adults. Readers filled the Merrick Library’s all-purpose room, eager to ask Bollen questions about his novel, which was previously a Mystery Book Lovers pick at the library.

May Massa, a member of the Merrick Library’s book club, asked Bollen several questions about the assorted clues in the mystery novel, while fellow book club member Eugene Lowenberg asked Bollen the biggest question: “Where do you get all these ideas about murder?”

Bollen just smiled slyly.

Once attendees asked questions about “The Orient,” library staff raffled off gift cards and prizes. The party celebrated yet another successful summer reading program put in place by Merrick and Bellmore libraries to keep patrons in a reading mood during the hottest of months.
