Nassau County beaches reopened

Hewlett Point Beach in East Rockaway and 18 other county beaches have reopened for swimming.

Nassau County Department of Health is reporting that all beaches operating for the 2013 season are currently open for swimming.

Due to heavy rainfall, the Nassau County Department of Health closed 19 beaches

Storm water runoff can have a negative impact by elevating bacterial levels and affecting bathing water quality, officials said.
