Students illustrate creative recycling posters

East Meadow elementary students were recognized by Covanta Energy and Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray for the creative posters they submitted in the Covanta Energy annual recycling poster contest.        

Barnum Woods third-grader Carly Herman and fourth-grader Michael Ettinger, as well as Bowling Green third-grader Cailyn Kranz attended a congratulatory ceremony at Chateau Briand in Carle Place in June. Also in attendance was Lissette Pellegrino, a teacher at Barnum Woods.

Temple member earns spirit award


Temple B’nai Torah member Seth Baker, of East Meadow, earned the 2012 Harvey Beller Spirit Award. The late Beller, of Massapequa, brought his love and dedication to the youth at the temple and, as a role model, was always encouraging them to strive for their goals. Following in Beller’s footsteps, Baker is an active temple member who continuously gives back to his temple and school.

Woodland Art Club mural unveiled

Woodland Middle School Art Club members came together to fashion a mural depicted the beauty of Long Island, and their work is now on display at Nassau Educators Federal Credit Union in Westbury.

Dr. John Healy, the art teacher at Woodland, was integral in securing this community display and was hailed by Legislator Norma Gonsalves who said, “Dr. Healthy has become the East Meadow School District ambassador trumpeting its many educational and cultural attributes.”
