Lawrence construction

Neighbors irked with construction by homeowner

Construction by a homeowner on Washington Avenue in Lawrence is causing quite a stir among neighbors who have organized a petition drive to stop what they believe is an attempt to run a commercial dental imaging center on their residential block.

Lawrence resident David Kadosh, who lives on Breezy Way, bought a second home in the village on 5 Washington Ave. two years ago, and neighbors believe he is trying to open a dental imaging business on the property that is zoned for residential use after noticing trucks delivering supplies to the site in recent weeks. Despite never getting a required building permit approved from the village of Lawrence, Kadosh pressed ahead with construction on the exterior of his driveway as well as a bulldozer ripping up trees and bushes for what neighbors believe will pave the way for a parking lot.

Kadosh, who owns 3D Imaging Center in Manhattan, told the Herald on Tuesday that he is considering opening a dentist office at 5 Washington Ave. and not a dental imaging center. Kadosh also explained that the work he has done on the property is to create a larger driveway and not a parking lot for a business.

“I’m not doing anything to hurt anybody,” said Kadosh.

On Dec. 2, Kadosh was issued stop-work-order from the village but only after creating what neighbors describe as a “major mess” on his property that if not cleaned up soon will ruin the character of this quiet residential neighborhood, they say. The Lawrence Board of Building Design took up the issue of whether to give Kadosh construction permits at its meeting Monday night, Dec. 7 and reserved decision. The decision over whether to grant him permission to run a commercial business on the residential property will be decided by the Lawrence Board of Trustees.
