New program seeks to enrich seniors’ lives in Valley Stream

Posted

Holy Trinity Episcopal Church is home to a new program for area seniors that offers joint activities with the church’s nursery school children, a social environment and enriching events like visits from guest speakers.

“Many elders in our community are retired,” said Carol Russer, the parish leader. “They may have lost touch with their friends, or their families may have moved, and they see them infrequently. This program will give them an opportunity to feel comfortable and supported with others who can appreciate their perspectives, as well as to provide topics to share with their families.”

The Senior Program of Activities, Refreshment and Knowledge, or SPARK, will feature activities that will be customized to participants’ needs and interests, and it will host guest speakers and experts who will address a variety of topics.

SPARK will run on Wednesdays from noon to 2 p.m. Healthy snacks will be provided. Registration for a five-week or 10-week session is required. The fee is $5 per week. The program received a startup grant from the Episcopal Ministries of Long Island. For more information, call (516) 825-2903 and leave a message, or email holytrinityvs@gmail.com.
