Nor'easter causes heavy flooding in Island Park

A powerful nor’easter has caused significant flooding in parts of Island Park disrupting the morning drop off for elementary school-aged children according to reports by local residents and officials. According to the National Weather Service, two inches of rain had fallen by 7 a.m. on Friday morning, with another two inches expected before the storm moves on in the evening.

Due to high waters in the streets and walkways around the Francis Hegarty Elementary School, Island Park fire personnel were on scene to escort children as they entered the building, according to Mayor Michael McGinty. He advised residents to avoid Deal and Radcliffe roads throughout the day.

The flooding is expected to get worse with high tide scheduled around 8 p.m. on Friday.
