NuHealth plans deemed ‘Projects of Regional Significance’

The NuHealth proposals for the Village of Healthy Living in East Meadow and the Senior Village at A. Holly Patterson in Uniondale have been designated as “Projects of Regional Significance” by the Long Island Regional Planning Council.
   
“The NuHealth Development Proposals in East Meadow and Uniondale present an excellent opportunity for Long Island for upgrading of vital health care facilities, providing housing opportunities for our seniors and health care professionals as well as creating vital economic development for our Island at a critical time,” said LIRPC Chairman John Cameron.
   
Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System made the announcement that the recent NuHealth had been designated as “Projects of Regional Significance.”

  
“We are proud to have the NuHealth proposed developments at East Meadow and Uniondale designated as a “Project of Regional Significance,” vital to the Long Island economy as NuHealth will be managing over 600 million dollars of facility development in two campuses and with job creation of over 800 medical staff positions in addition to the 1,000 new construction jobs,” he said.
  
In East Meadow, the plan calls for a new ambulatory surgery center with associated medical offices that would give patients access to outpatient procedures as well as renovations and construction of new living areas to enhance its role as a teaching hospital.
   
The Uniondale property redevelopment would transform it into a “senior living village” made up of 388 units of affordable senior housing, a new 150-bed Medicaid Assisted Living Facility, and 100,000 square feet of commercial office development.
   
Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray wrote a letter in support stating, “The Senior Village at Patterson is focused on serving the needs of mature residents, proposing an array of services along with affordable senior housing and a new A. Holly Patterson nursing care facility.”
   
The requests for proposals were issued on April 15 with the responses due on May 21. The RFPs were issued in partnership with NuHealth's master real estate developer, Health Care REIT, Inc.
   
Michael E. White, executive director of the LIRPC said he believes that NuHealth’s proposed developments will improve Long Islanders quality of life, creating local jobs and providing improved health care and wellness services for the community.
   
The Long Island Regional Planning Council represents both Nassau and Suffolk counties' in long-range planning for the Island. It also serves as a major voice for Long Island and as an advocate on issues affecting local governmental policy, regionally significant projects, grants and funding.
