Songs That Won An Oscar

Vocalist Bettina Paley walks the red carpet performing a lively repertoire of unforgettable classics from such films as “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “You Light Up My Life,” and “The Way We Were.” Tickets, which are limited to two per person, will be available beginning Feb. 14 to Oceanside School District residents and Feb. 17 to non-residents, if available. The event begins at 2 p.m. on Feb. 21.

Bill German’s “Under Their Thumb”

Meet the Rolling Stones’ biggest fan, Bill German, as he discusses his memoir, “Under Their Thumb: How a Nice Boy from Brooklyn Got Mixed Up with The Rolling Stones,” at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 23. As a teenager, German created one of the very first “zines,” the Stones-only newsletter “Beggars Banquet.” Impressed with German’s passion for their music, the Stones invited him on the road and into their personal lives, giving him the opportunity, for 17 years, to experience first-hand the extraordinary career of one of the world’s most influential rock bands.

“Rome Around Italy”

Photographer and Oceanside resident Dr. Jeffrey Herzlich debuts his panoramic photography exhibit at the Oceanside Library now through March 14. In this exhibit, Herzlich details the flow of life through Rome, Italy, using oversized panoramas highlighting the extensive structure, form, and beauty of ancient Italian piazzas, with modern-day people, ranging from citizens to tourists, all passing casually through them.

Author Visit: Meet authors Terry and Brittany McLeod

Written by mother-daughter team Terry and Brittany McLeod, “113 Things to do by 13” covers all of the issues facing today’s tweens. The book is packed with lots of girl power and tips, advice and contributions from young celebrities on making it through their tweens. The first ten girls to sign up will receive a complimentary copy of the book when they arrive for the program, from 2 - 3:30 p.m., on Feb. 6. The event is for girls ages 9 - 12 and moms. Register at the circulation desk.
