Child Safety ID Program
Obtain a free photo ID and child safety kit in the Town of Hempstead’s van, located across the street from the library, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on April 9.

Passport to Summer
Apply for your family’s passports in the Town of Hempstead’s passport van, located across the street from the Oceanside Library, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on April 9.

Computer Class: Internet and E-mail
This class covers e-mail applications using group mailings, attachments, and security as well as Internet surfing and shopping. Pre-registration is required. Classes will be held from 10-11 a.m. on April 13, 20 and 27. The fee is $30.

Computer Class: Computer Darkroom
Experienced computer users will learn how to download, retouch, and manipulate digital photographs using common applications like Microsoft Word. This class will also provide and introduction to Google’s Picassa for more complex photo editing. We suggest that you bring a digital camera and USB connecting cable to class. Pre-registration is required. Classes will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. on April 13, 20 and 27. The fee is $30.

Book Discussion: “Theodore Roosevelt’s Darkest Journey: The River of Doubt” by Candice Millard
This year’s “Long Island Reads” book selection recounts Roosevelt’s daring voyage down an unexplored tributary of the Amazon River. The book discussion will be led by Barbara Krupit at 2 p.m. on April 13.

Wake Up your Garden with the Oceanside Garden Club
Wake up and smell the flowers with special guest speaker Jenny Ulsheimer, director of horticulture at Clark Botanical Gardens, and delight in the first signs of spring. The club will meet at 7 p.m. on April 13.

Zentangle 101
Zentangle is a simple method of drawing patterns that is fun, creative and quick. Certified Zentangle teacher MaryAnn Scheblein-Dawson will show you how to use your imagination to make beautiful designs from 3 - 4 p.m. on March 30. Register at the circulation desk.

Living in Space
Join the folks from the Long Island Cradle of Aviation as they answer the most common and practical questions on what life is like in space. Kids ages five and up will discover where astronauts sleep, what they wear, what kind of food is available, and much more. Kids will even get to try on a space suit. Register for the event, from 2-3 p.m. on March 31, in the children’s room.

Storytelling with Donna Washington
For adults and children ages three and up. Well known for her folktales, fables, and spooky ghost stories, Donna also has hundreds of tales from all over the world that range from scary to hilarious. Register for the event, from 1-2 p.m. on April 1, in the children’s room.

Spring Wreath
Create a spring wreath for your front door to brighten the winter blues away. Starting with a grapevine wreath, using colorful wired ribbons, spring-colored silk flowers and greenery of your choosing, you will create a unique design all your own. Please bring a wire cutter and a glue gun to class, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on April 14. $20 material fee must be paid at registration.

Special Events

Crutches for Haiti
Oceanside High School sophomore Cassidy Heide will be collecting crutches, canes, walkers and medical supplies like band-aids and neosporin to send to relief efforts in Haiti. She’ll be in front of Community National Bank, 31-21 Long Beach Road in Oceanside, from 10 - 5 p.m. on March 28 collecting donations. For more information, call 359-2558.

Experience Hope: Holy Week 2010
The Oceanside Lutheran Church, 62 Davison Avenue, invites the community to celebrate Holy Week starting with Palm Sunday on March 28 at 10 a.m. Then come experience Thursday worship on April 1 at 7 p.m., followed by a Good Friday Service April 2 at 7 p.m. Naturally, all are welcome to the culmination of Holy Week on Easter morning, April 4, at 10 a.m. Questions? Oceanside Kiwanis Spring Cleaning Indoor Community Yard Sale
Start cleaning out your closets, attic and basement. Now’s the chance to turn your unwanted stuff into cash!
