Oceansider given ‘Make a Difference’ award

The Town of Hempstead honored 12 people who “Make a Difference” in their communities, at the 20th annual ceremony on May 24. Sister Evelyn Lamoureux of Oceanside was lauded for her crusades on behalf of society’s struggling and vulnerable populations. She is the Human Services Coordinator at Saint Boniface Catholic Church in Elmont where she helps the needy obtain food, financial assistance, furniture and other vital needs. She takes part in youth groups offering counseling, for health care, substance abuse, and vocational training.

Hempstead Town Supervisor Anthony Santino said, “Every year we gather to honor the unsung heroes who strive to improve their communities and help their fellow citizens. Their selfless acts of volunteerism and leadership are symbols of the heat and soul of Hempstead Town.”
