One dead and two injured in head-on collision

Valley Stream resident John A. Caputo, 31, died after he was reportedly driving erratically, crossing the center line on South Avenue, leading to a head-on collision with a Riverhead Central School District bus. According to Riverhead police detectives, the incident took place on Feb. 10 at around 5 p.m. and was initially reported when information came in of a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee swerving in the street’s westbound lane.

The bus that was hit was traveling east, and occupied by the driver, Ane Membreno Argueta, 30, of Mastic, and a student, both of whom suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The State Police Accident Reconstruction Team was requested on the scene to assist the detectives in the investigation.
