Organizers: Second-annual carnival a success

More than 9,000 Valley Streamers attended the second annual carnival at the Arthur J. Hendrickson pool parking lot on May 6.

“People still came out, people still enjoyed themselves even with the cold,” said Phil Jones, who organized the carnival.

The most popular attraction, according to Jones, was a ride that spun around and turned riders upside down. “I would never go on it myself, but the kids really, really enjoyed that, and the adults too,” he said.

Carnival-goers also used the event as an opportunity to expand their job search. For the carnival’s second year, Jones decided to team up with Allied Universal, a security officer company, for the ‘Come as You Are Job Fair.’

“People could come in shorts or with cotton candy and with a clean resume,” Jones said about the job fair. They were then able to apply for positions throughout Long Island.

The Valley Stream Presbyterian Church sponsored the carnival as a fundraiser. The money collected from the carnival will be used to hold church events. But, it was still a great way to bring the community together, Jones said, and “that’s what it’s all about.”
