Oceanside student Alex Frondelli was one of the performers at the New York State School Music Association concert on March 3, part of the 41st Annual Joseph R. Sugar NYSSMA Day in Albany.

In addition tot he great music provided by students, NYSSMA took the opportunity to inform the legislators in the state capital about the organization, that it comprises 4,500 members representing 1.8 million school music students in New York and the households that support their music eduction.

“Music is a ‘core academic subject as described by the [NY State Education Department]” NYSSMA’s press release to legislators said. The students and members came to Albany “to advocate for our students, families and members.”

NYSSMA wanted legislators to know that “music programs are in trouble” and they sought Albany’s aid in restoring and strengthening music programs throughout the state.
