Our Best Friends Rescue hosts fundraiser; welcomes Long Island Search & Rescue

Posted

Our Best Friends Rescue hosted its annual fundraiser at the Fishery on Sept. 11.
The event, which was also attended by the Long Island Search & Rescue, featured live, music, raffles, prizes — and many canine “best friends.”
The event coordinators were Denise Abandolo, Pattie Lazarus, Rita Accardi and Lisa Galgano.
“We raised somewhere around $2,000,” said Abandolo. “A percentage went to the wonderful organization, Search & Rescue. The money raised goes towards the vetting, feeding and maintenance of the dogs we pull out of the kill shelters. Most of them are in foster homes, some need medical attention (other than spay and neutering) most come of the shelter sick ---- we have a soft spot for the seniors, so vetting is a big deal to us. The group also helps pet owners who cannot afford to feed their families. “We have provided people with vet care and pet food in order to assist them in keeping their furry family members,” said Abandolo. “Over the holidays we not only feed the homeless animals, but we also help with food drives for veterans and homeless people. Being part of this rescue has been one of the most fulfilling things I have done in my life, and its a dream come true.” Abandolo said that they are always looking for volunteers — especially foster homes — and can contact the group for a foster application.
“I would like to thank Pattie, Rita and Lisa for not only being my partners in rescue, but the best friends anyone could ask for,” said Abandolo.
The band, Primary Colours did an awesome job, said Abandolo. “They’ll be playing at Backstage in Woodmere on Oct. 8. The band, along with Best Friends Animal Rescue, can be found on Facebook.
