Pedestrian struck and killed in Merrick

A 25-year-old male was struck and killed by an unknown vehicle while he was walking on Babylon Turnpike near Smith Street in Merrick on June 20 at 1:35 a.m., according to detectives with the Nassau County Police Department’s Homicide Squad. The vehicle operator drove off northbound after hitting the young man.

The victim, who police have not yet identified, was rushed to the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow by a Merrick Fire Department ambulance. He was pronounced dead at 5:56 a.m. by hospital staff.
