Police: Driver did 110 on Southern State

New York State Police arrested a Queens man they say was doing twice the speed limit on the Southern State Parkway through the Valley Stream are According to police, Trooper Walker closed 23-year-old Kashaun Iqbal, of 100th Avenue in Queens Village, at 110 mph near Fletcher Avenue, Exit 14, on July 28 just before noon. The speed limit on the parkway is 55 mph.

Iqbal was driving a black Acura. Police report that he repeatedly changed lanes unsafely almost caused several accidents, and attempted to flee the trooper. Iqbal was forced to slow down due to traffic and eventually was stopped and arrested.

He was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police office, reckless driving and several traffic violation. He is due to appear in Nassau County First District Court on Aug. 9.
