Police investigating Merrick home near Brookside school building

Nassau County police were out in force Wednesday morning, investigating a home in Merrick across from the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District administrative building, also known as Brookside School.

Officers were on scene since 8 a.m., with police dogs and detectives converging on the location around noon on Wednesday.

Police have released no details as of yet, but there is an ongoing investigation into "possible illegal substances," a public information officer said on the scene.

Neighboring resident Jenna Fennelly said that an older couple, possibly in their 60s, resides in the 1285 Merrick Road home with two adult daughters. While they do not have a "great neighborly relationship," Fennelly said, she was still surprised to see the police activity.
