Shortly after midnight on Wednesday, officers rescued a man who attempted to hang himself off of the bridge at Atlantic and Brower avenues in Oceanside, the 4th Precinct reported.

According to police, after receiving a 911 call and arriving at the scene at 12:49 a.m., officers saw the man, who was not identified, holding onto the lower portion of the bridge with a jumper cable cord wrapped around his neck. He then let go and was briefly hanging before becoming unconscious and falling into the water, police said.

An officer then jumped in, pulled him to shore and administered CPR. The officer was reportedly treated for salt-water ingestion and exhaustion before being released from a nearby hospital. The victim, also transported to an area hospital, was reported to be conscious and breathing.
