Cops say suspect robbed the 7-Eleven in W.H. and other places in the county

Nassau County police arrested a Roosevelt man on Dec. 29 for multiple robberies in the area including the recent robbery of the 7-Eleven in West Hempstead.

According to county detectives, Kalyn Jones, 18, of Putnam Avenue, was arrested after he was stopped by a police officer in Hempstead for vehicle and traffic law violations. During the traffic stop, police said, the officer observed a handgun underneath the car's front passenger seat. He was charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon.

After a brief investigation by the county's Robbery Squad, the police discovered that Jones was responsible for six armed robberies in the area. Most notably, police said Jones robbed the 7-Eleven on Hempstead Avenue at gunpoint on Dec. 22.

Jones has also been charged with six counts of first degree robbery and six counts of second degree criminal use of a weapon. He was arraigned in the First District Court in Hempstead on Dec. 30.
