Police say strangler tried to kill his victim

Posted

David Knudson, of Dahlia Avenue, was arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder, among other charges, on Feb 23, police said, after he punched and nearly strangled a 32-year-old woman in his apartment. Knudson, 42, placed a garbage bag over the victim’s head while he choked her, Nassau County police added.

According to police, the attack took place at around 8 p.m., when Knudson began punching the woman, whom police did not identify, in the head and face. He also pulled the garbage bag over her head, put his hands around her throat and choked her, police said. But the woman eventually managed to free herself and fled to an upstairs apartment, where she summoned police.

Officers who responded to the call arrested Knudson after a struggle. The woman sustained what police described as “serious injuries” and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

In addition to attempted murder, Knudson was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree strangulation, aggravated criminal contempt, two counts of first-degree criminal contempt and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Feb. 24.
