Nassau County Police want to find the vandals that painted anti-police slogans and “tags” or nicknames on the wall of an office building and other areas of Shell Creek Park on Vanderbilt Avenue in Island Park.

Hempstead Town Councilman Anthony D'Esposito said Town workers found the graffiti just after 7 a.m. Wednesday morning and called police. He said the town was working to remove the graffiti and clean the area.

There are no surveillance cameras in the park.

Police estimate the vandalism occurred between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 5 a.m. Wednesday.

In addition to the park similar graffiti was painted on a sign outside a nearby Starbucks store, located on Austin Boulevard and California Place South. There are red light cameras at that location, according to D'Esposito.

Anyone with information should contact Nassau County Police at 1-800-244-TIPS.
